Flood Watch for Friday

A flood watch is in effect for Friday and into the weekend. The risk of flooding is dependent on the amount of rainfall that  we get on Thursday. If there is a significant rainfall upriver, we should expect some level of flooding.

We will be updating this site as we get new information. Live forecast below.

I, too, appreciate the work you do here. That being said, I take the opposite view; I would rather have frequent posts, maybe every 4 – 6 hours, even if they state that there is no change. Watching the river rise, and no communication re: status, is more unsettling. There certainly are situations where too much information is unnecessary, this is not one of them. Again, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Bidgeton EMA for your time!

Hi-I’m grateful for the diligent work you do with this site, but I panic everytime I see a new post so I just want to ask, what is the benefit of an update saying a flood watch starts in 36 hours when nobody knows the extent? And, isn’t that the same update you posted earlier in the day? Isn’t it better to use posts for true emergencies and specific data? Just asking and again I appreciate this service. Thanks.

There is a balance between pushing information out too frequently and not frequently enough, and we’re still learning what the ideal mix is.

Your opinions are valuable, and we will strive to structure our announcements better, with more specific data. That said, the number of requests for information about where, specifically, River Road is affected, if it’s open or closed, and what alternate routes are, what the extent of flooding will be/is are the kinds of information that – during a flood incident – will of necessity increase the frequency of announcements.

We’re in an unusual “double-up” situation with this flood watch, and as a result, we’ve posted more here than perhaps was strictly necessary. But we appreciate your input and will attempt to do better.

      Thanks

      Bridgeton Township EMA.

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it. I so understand the challenge of balancing the infromation flow. Especially in view of the tricky situation we have right now, with the episodes so close together. I do appreciate the work that you’re doing and it is a big help. Thanks again.
